SkyCell and Yusen Logistics Extend Their Global Collaboration to the China-Japan Corridor

In pharmaceutical logistics, consistency has always been key.

Whether transporting therapies across continents or between neighboring markets, pharmaceutical companies expect the same standards of quality, visibility, and temperature protection throughout every shipment.

Leveraging an established, successful global collaboration, SkyCell and Yusen Logistics recently completed their first pharmaceutical shipment on the China-Japan corridor.

Transported from Shanghai Pudong (PVG) to Tokyo Narita (NRT), the shipment supported one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies and marked an important milestone in expanding the SkyCell-Yusen Logistics partnership across Asia-Pacific.

While China and Japan are geographically close, pharmaceutical shipments between the two markets still require strict temperature control, regulatory compliance, and end-to-end visibility. Extending a proven logistics model into this strategically important corridor demanded the same operational standards that pharmaceutical manufacturers expect across global supply chains.

China and Japan play critical roles in Asia's pharmaceutical ecosystem, spanning drug development, manufacturing, and commercial distribution. With Asia contributing more than 85% of global growth in innovative drug pipelines in 2024, pharmaceutical organizations increasingly depend on trusted regional logistics networks to support increasingly complex operations.

Building on a Proven Partnership

Before launching operations on the China-Japan lane, SkyCell and Yusen Logistics had already collaborated successfully across multiple pharmaceutical trade lanes worldwide.

The shipment from Shanghai Pudong (PVG) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) marked the first expansion of that collaboration onto the China-Japan corridor.

Drawing on established operational processes, deep pharmaceutical logistics expertise, and proven technology, both teams ensured seamless execution and consistent performance throughout the shipment.

By combining Yusen Logistics' pharmaceutical logistics expertise with SkyCell's hybrid container technology and Validaide's real-time monitoring capabilities, product integrity and shipment visibility were maintained from origin to destination.

The Shipment

Supporting one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, the shipment required strict temperature control throughout the five-day transport while maintaining visibility and compliance at every stage.

Throughout the five-day transit, the shipment maintained the required 15°C to 25°C temperature range, ensuring product integrity from origin to destination.

In addition to maintaining temperature performance, the shipment delivered measurable sustainability benefits on the PVG-NRT lane.

SkyCell's hybrid container technology enabled the shipment to achieve up to 50% lower CO₂ emissions compared with the best active alternative while maintaining the temperature protection and shipment visibility required for high-value pharmaceutical products.

By reducing the energy and infrastructure requirements associated with temperature-controlled transport, SkyCell containers help pharmaceutical companies lower the environmental impact of their supply chains without compromising reliability, compliance, or product integrity.

Reflecting on the successful shipment, SkyCell's Business Director China, Ronaldo Hua Huang, shared:

The first shipment with Yusen from China marks an important milestone. It showcases our client’s trust in SkyCell’s hybrid containers and real-time software solution, which protect high-value medicines from plant to patient. Together, we’ve turned pharmaceutical supply chain complexity into reliability. This is just the start—we look forward to further collaboration and new opportunities between SkyCell and Yusen across Asia.

Also, Sophie Su, Head of Healthcare IV APAC, Yusen Logistics, said:

Healthcare is a strategic priority for Yusen Logistics, and as demand accelerates across APAC, customers are actively seeking reliable, scalable solutions to meet increasingly complex requirements. Our partnership with SkyCell enables us to deliver exactly that, combining proven temperature-controlled expertise with strong local execution and seamless end-to-end delivery. This positions us to support customers in achieving both operational excellence and compliance as they confidently expand their healthcare supply chains across the region.

Looking Ahead

The successful completion of this first China-Japan shipment represents an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between SkyCell and Yusen Logistics.

While regional in scope, the shipment highlights a broader trend across the pharmaceutical supply chains worldwide: the need to scale trusted logistics partnerships into new markets without introducing additional risk.

The successful launch of the China-Japan corridor provides a foundation for continued collaboration between SkyCell and Yusen Logistics as they support the evolving needs of pharmaceutical companies across the region.
